Diving Into The New Year

Aubrey took his first "dumpster dive" of the New Year and brought this home for me:
Can you believe people actually throw this stuff away? He told me there were 2 more but they were in very bad condition. I started questioning "How bad?" but he nipped it in the bud. "Very bad, they were all torn up, dirty, and had cardboard insides." Of course I still wanted to go see for myself but I am too scared to go on "6th Street" by myself so I had to take his word for it. He also mentioned a big hand painted sign with "Hog Maws for Sale" painted on it. The look on my face made him say: "It was TOO big, Angela." Hmmmph.

We seriously can not get enough of this:
So good. The cappuccino is both of our favorites.

So, a couple of weeks before Christmas we went to an estate sale. You might remember me saying we stayed for 4 hours in the pouring rain. We got soaked but we found a ton of fantastic things! As we made our pile, we got "the stink eye" from several people. One guy in particular actually laughed at me and called Aubrey a "dummy." --Oh yes he did!! I seriously didn't think Aubrey heard him because he had no reaction to it. Later, I found out he DID hear him but Aubrey's only comment was: "He just better be glad I took my Zoloft this morning."

I felt a little disturbed by the guy for a good while after we left and I told Aubrey that I felt like I had "to prove something to that guy" and I didn't like feeling that way. Aubrey just told me that the guy didn't matter at all and that they can laugh all they want, we would be the ones laughing all the way to the bank....

Fast forward a few weeks later-...and I did actually laugh all the way to the bank with my first complete check from the antique mall- $906.26!!! Not to mention I haven't even put half the stuff I bought that day in the booth yet! I am so excited to get off to such a great start with my booth. I was sort of keeping up with it (or so I thought) and I told Aubrey a couple of days before that I thought I was going to get at least $400 from them -- so I was totally shocked when I opened my envelope!

Hopefully this year will be more of the same good luck and good fortune. We have an estate sale coming up on Friday the 13th. This time if we get laughed at, I might have to laugh right back!

Score! I come from a long line of dumpster divers, but in the 80s we called it 'tip rats'

Oh my who would put that wonderful thing in the dumpster? Plus I love to hear stories of success for the antique dealer, one dealer to another.

Well, that guy was rude! We sometimes get 'the look' and I've come to a point where it doesn't bother me anymore. Some people just don't get it!
