Have you seen this Pottery Barn horse popping up all over Pinterest? Cute, right? I'm not really into horses. The beauty of having a booth at the antique mall - I can get crafty and then let someone who IS into horses buy it. That is if I can find a horse to trace...I am not about to attempt to draw a horse on my own. What other animals would be cute?
Speaking of painting and drawing - I have had this urge to paint lately. But, I want to just copy something and paint it. I don't feel like stressing out about drawing something first. I just want to paint in the lines.
So, I got this grand idea to go get a coloring book, blow up the page, trace it, and paint it. (For my own personal use of course) So, I decided what I wanted to paint and jetted off to Wal-Mart to pick up a coloring book. Can you believe Wal-Mart does not have coloring books?!?!
WHEN DID THIS HAPPEN?
DO KIDS NOT COLOR ANYMORE?
Coloring was by far my favorite activity as a child. So sad. At first I thought I was just missing them. I thought: "Perhaps they are not with the toys but with the arts and crafts." After checking the arts and crafts section, I checked the aisle with the crayons, markers, and poster boards --no coloring books. So, I asked a worker and guess what? They didn't have any!
Ugh.
I did find this though:
Maybe your child will not grow up to become the next Monet, da Vinci, or Picasso but look on the bright side- they will know how to pick up dog poop. Come to think of it, an art degree didn't exactly do me a world of good but I DO have to pick up dog poop from time to time. Hmmm. Maybe I should have spent less time sprawled on my belly trying to stay in the lines and more time practicing my hand-in-the-plastic-bag-and-holding-my-breath-to-the-garbage-can routine.

dollar tree has plenty of coloring books to make up for walmart's lack of.. quality children's items!
ah - I always forget about Dollar Tree!! I will go first thing in the morning! Thanks :)
I think a few animals that would look cute painted would be a bear or even a moose?? Maybe even a wolf. As for the coloring books.....I can't believe that Wal-Mart doesn't carry any coloring books.....my kids love to color and we get the coloring books from all over the place....K-Mart, Toys-R-Us, the dollar stores I think I have even found some at the grocery store. I just don't understand why they can carry a toy about picking up dog poop but NO coloring books......YIKES! That says a lot doesn't it??
Haha you made me laugh ... I know that dog poo manoeuvre well. It is a delicate art, but I can't believe there's a kid's game about it. That's madness.
As a child colouring books were definitely my favourite thing to do (apart from reading). There surely can be little better and more fun?? Such a way to get creative ... it's sad that you couldn't find any at Wal-Mart. The world can sometimes be a crazy place.
PS. Apart from horses, what about a fox / owl? They're always popular animals.
love the horse painting....can't wait to see your reproduction!!
coloring books are almost hard to find these days! sometimes I color when I'm really stressed, so I have a stash of them. I can usually find them at big lots!
I always colored, drew, and cut paper as a child. It inspired creativity that I think most of us have carried into adulthood. What kind of creativity will come from a toy about dog doo doo? Shudder!!!
If you don't find what you're looking for at Dollar Tree you can google for free coloring pages. There's a ton of them out there.
My spin on the horse picture would be 3 "stair-stepped" dogs sitting all in a row.
You make me laugh so hard. Doggie Doo, really?!? That is so wrong on so many levels! :)
Have fun painting! Target's dollar section normally has coloring books.
If you check out my blog, don't laugh at our painting skills compared to yours. We were having fun, and that's all that matters. :)
how about a deer or a fox?
So weird that kids are so high tech these days you can't find a no tech coloring book at a superstore!! Guess touch tablets like they have on Project Runway are the coloring books of the future. (I hope NOT)
i know! Who are the buyers for Wally World? Don't they know!! Dollar Tree has plenty of coloring books! Cute horse!
oh my, you are crackin me up!!! and my favorite animal happens to be the jackass...
Oh Angela, have not seen this! My girls would love this. I have a hard time finding horse pictures that imlike, but this is great....I like the idea of recreating it. Now if only I could remember my interest password...
