Because I was on a blog break this past Christmas Season - let me share a little of what happened around here.
We had our Christmas Open House at work the first weekend of November and because I know no other way to describe how busy we were from that day until Christmas I will just say it was "On like Donkey Kong" I never knew what that meant until I ran, sprinted, jumped, ducked, and squatted for 2 months straight. Mario had nothing on us.
During all the chaos of open house, extra customers, and gift wrapping just about everything we sold, we decided to build a float for our city's Christmas Parade which was on December 1st.
So, we built it before, after, and during work and put it together THE morning of the parade!!
Here we are:
It was a whimsical and crazy cardboard float that almost fell apart on the drive from the store to the parade route. When we pulled up and saw the "real" floats - the ones that were made from real float materials and not cardboard boxes- we felt like Charlie Brown's Christmas tree! BUT, I guess the judges were going for that handmade look because we won FIRST PLACE! ...and I have to tell you, riding on that float was the most fun I have had in a long time! We laughed the whole 2 hours it took to drive the route and people were just in great Christmas spirit that day!
Then, we went straight back to work on Monday and were full steam ahead until Christmas Eve at 3:00! In the meantime, we got "real" elf costumes and wore them to work every single day...and even to an early morning trip to the TV station! People loved it! It was just a season of bringing joy and happiness to people! It is amazing the happiness a silly costume can bring to someone. A regular trip to the post office becomes magical when you are dressed like an elf...and it excites every child around!
So, that is the story of how I officially became possibly the tallest Christmas elf this year.
